Flex Shaft Attachments and Capabilities

Come with Instructor Cathy Prieto-Smith on a journey of discovery. We’ll learn innovative ways to use your flex shaft with tons of tricks & tips using accessories in ways you probably haven’t thought of. We will begin by touching on the basics of burs, bits, & abrasives, then dive into an array of other uses like cutting prongs, setting a stone, and using it as a lathe. Then we will take some time to create a beautiful pair of earrings, using your newfound knowledge.  Participants will practice hands-on activities including tube setting 4mm stones, creating a lathed bead, creating texture with cut-off wheels, and more.

Bio

Cathy is a Houston-based artist. She has adorned herself with her handmade creations since she was a child. In 1998 she went “official” with Charisma Designs. By 2001 she was studying under Master Jeweler, Val Link, at the University of Houston. She specializes in metal but loves cutting stones, fusing glass, and ceramics. Cathy creates and teaches in her amazing studio in Houston’s artistic EaDo.

Lunch: Please bring a bag lunch.  HMAG will provide waters, sodas, and light snacks, but students are encouragaed to bring their own lunch.
